Celestial Intervention. Builds Roadmap

Initially, the future of the project looked a little different to me. I expected that in a year of development at my own pace i could reach a point where the main content of the United Kingdom of Causham and the main story lines with possible side-quests would be available. Now my plans have added a lot more than i originally expected and with that has come a change in my estimation of the time it will take to accomplish all that i had planned

Right now i'm estimating a rough time commitment of two years if i continue to develop the game on my own. which is more likely to be the case. In addition, i've decided to change my approach to publishing new versions of the game. The reason for this is the expansion of the development and my unwillingness to add content in small fragments. Now i`ve to create only Eastern District, which consists of only three streets available to the player and a secret location, which in fact...will not be so secret, rather secret will be the way to get to this location, but now not about that. The Eastern District alone requires ~months of active development if i won't be distracted from the project for a long time. Why is this so difficult? For example, let's take Market Street, a street available even in the current Public Build, on the street itself, there will be several NPCs available to talk to, which should have their own dialogs and their variants. several residential buildings, a tavern, an atelier and a few small trading stalls will be available. In addition, the street should respond to the character's states. For example, if the character runs out naked - game should trigger encounters related to this, and if the character is a famous whore - passersby should pay attention to this. All the same is true for other locations and so - should be different depending on the time of day. Logically, the number of dangerous events at night should be higher than during the day.

With all of the above said, i just can't divide a piece of content into even smaller pieces. For example, the existence of Main Street in my mind is impossible without a tavern on Market Street, just as the existence of the crime system, which is currently in development, is impossible without the existence of a guard post on Main Street. If we move away from simple reasoning, i came up with this order of updates:

  • Act 1. Of the available content, only Eastern District. The story is up until the possibility of going through Lostgate. Movement through the locations is limited to Eastern District only. This will be the only content available for a very long time. I decided to choose this particular point because of the direct and very clear limit. Lostgate is the logical conclusion to the first act of the story. The character's important goal is to get inside the city, not to live forever at the foot of the walls and pausing the story should only be done at this point;
  • Act 2. City Life. A lot of time will pass before this update is released, because my goal will be to fully create Causham with all its neighborhoods and possible quests inside that won't go beyond the available locations. This will take a very long time for one simple reason. Eastern District is one of Causham's neighborhoods, and there are four more in the city itself (with a few Residental Area zones that could even be considered as separate neighborhoods, but i didn't). Other than that - finalizing Lostgate as a separate location and adding the city's sewers and other hidden areas;
  • Act 3. Hartonwich. I anticipate that creating Hartonwich will take less time than Causham trivially due to the fact that very much of the code will already be ready and i'll only have to write the story, but it's worth bearing in mind that i'll have to add a system for moving between towns and i'm not gonna add just one. Beforehand, it will be possible to move in a caravan (expensive), on the job (for example, your character can get a job as a guard of some trade caravan and ofc, will spend this journey is not just free, but also earn from it), as well as - independent travel to a new location with its own options for development. It may take as long as filling one street with content, just because of how many different ideas i`ve in my head;
  • Act 4. Carton. After creating Hartonwich (the only way to travel to the prison town of Carton), i will start exactly creating it. It may not take that long trivially due to the fact that the prison line is not my primary goal. I plan to add the prison content as free DLC after the rest of the project stages are completed;
  • Act 5. Midgemazion. Those who have already played my game may know that the United Kingdom of Causham consists of the Kingdom of Causham and the Kingdom of Midgemazion. I plan to add the capital of the second kingdom in this act. It will also take quite a long time, definitely longer than the creation of Causham, just because of how different these places will be.
  • Act 6. Godfordge. Godfordge is the second major city from the second kingdom, which will be a very important point before the full release of the finished game, which in the future will only be covered by new content in the format of free DLC. It won't take long to complete, i can estimate its size as Hartonwich;
  • Act 7. Alworthbou and Darton. Addition of the island territories of the United Kingdom of Causham. Along with this, the game will feature naval content that will unlock access to new jobs, activities, and shhh...secret endings. This could take a very long time due to the scope and will probably be divided into stages when i get to that act. But by that point, there will be plenty of different content available in the game;

The completion of the seventh act will be the full 1.0 release of the game. After that i will continue development only by adding new content to the existing content, which will allow you to go through the game in a new way or just spend more time in it, and also in my plans to add free DLC content. By free DLC content, i mean adding new countries that exist in the world of the game. A bit of a spoiler, but in the future it opens up the possibility of ending the game as a queen, a famous prostitute from a neighboring kingdom, or an enemy of all nations at the head of a religious cult.

In closing, i wanna add a little bit about my views on this project as a developer. I only aim to express everything that has accumulated in me in one big project, which I consider my magnum opus. I don`t aim to monetize Celestial Intervention in any way possible, i earn enough without that and i just wanna create a game. The only things i need to not just be successful, but positive about the project:

- Feedback. Feedback from players in my game is what will help me to properly understand which sides are worth working on better or just more often, and which are worth paying less attention to. Or for example - feedback that some opponent is too strong at this stage of the game. Ther`s an enemy in the game-design plan that will have a special ability to reduce a character's defense that hasn't been tested within the game yet, but i'm guessing that idea might cause too much difficulty;

- Understanding. I hope for understanding from the community. i`m developing the game on my own, with the support of only one person who has nothing to do with the story or coding anyway. That said, i'm not complaining about this, just asking for understanding that creating new acts/patches/etc can take a lot of time, which i`ve little to no control over. And, all that waiting time will be converted into an interesting project <3
